BIO

Charles Hancock is an artist working in Color Pencil, Charcoal, Watercolor, and Acrylic.

My passion for drawing goes back to my youth. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. After decades of being a hobbyist, I finally decided to pursue becoming a Full-time artist. I create works in many styles but I'm known for Semi-Realism, Illustration, and Portraiture.

My inspirations have come from mythology, religion, film, comics, history, street art, and the experiences of life.

I am self taught. I find a value in autodidacticism. Maybe I have gotten that trait from my Father. It was my fathers pursuit of keeping the life ways and handicraft of our tribe that inspires me to keep that journey alive. I also (attempt) to keep, revitalize, and document those tribal ways.

When I am not doing that or creating an artwork; you would find me on a hike in the woods, cooking in the kitchen, studying ethnobotany, editing videos for my YouTube Channel or out at a pow-wow. I am often experimenting with an art mediums that I am unfamiliar with.

I endeavor to hold strong to my values and ethics. I believe art is therapeutic and innate to humanity. Struggle precedes growth; and I am dedicated to my growth. I was born in Newport News, Virginia and spent most of my life in the South. I am an enrolled member of The Monacan Indian Nation of Virginia. I live with my partner Jennifer, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
